What is mufalato?

Mufalato, also spelled as "Muffuletta," is a type of sandwich that originated in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is made with a round bread that is similar to Italian focaccia bread. The bread is sliced horizontally, and the inside is hollowed out to make space for filling. The traditional filling of mufalato includes layers of sliced ham, salami, mortadella, and provolone cheese. It is then topped with a layer of olive salad that includes chopped green and black olives, celery, cauliflower, carrots, garlic, and spices. The sandwich is often served cold and can be cut into quarters or eighths for sharing. Mufalato is a popular street food in New Orleans and has spread to other parts of the United States.
