What is nafs-e-zakiyyah?

Nafs-e-Zakiyyah refers to a pure and righteous soul in Islamic teachings. It is believed that human beings possess different types of nafs or souls, ranging from the lowest, nafs-e-ammara (commanding soul), to the highest, nafs-e-mutmainnah (tranquil soul). Nafs-e-zakiyyah falls in the middle of this spectrum and is characterized by a strong inclination towards good deeds and righteousness.

According to Islamic teachings, achieving nafs-e-zakiyyah is a gradual process that requires constant self-reflection, spiritual growth, and doing good deeds. It is believed that attaining a pure and righteous soul brings peace, contentment, and closeness to Allah.

Some practices that can help in purifying the soul and attaining nafs-e-zakiyyah include reciting the Quran, performing voluntary prayers, engaging in charitable acts, seeking forgiveness, and avoiding negative traits such as anger, envy, and arrogance.
