What is nandopsis?

Nandopsis is a genus of fish in the cichlid family, native to Central America. The genus includes several fish species, including the popular "Jack Dempsey" (Nandopsis octofasciatum). Nandopsis species are typically territorial and aggressive, and require a large tank with plenty of hiding places and rocks for territorial boundaries. They are omnivores, and a varied diet of pellets, flakes, and live or frozen foods is recommended. Nandopsis are often kept in aquariums, and can be bred in captivity. They are popular due to their striking colors and unique personalities.
