What is netshow?

NetShow was a streaming media technology developed by Microsoft in the late 1990s. It allowed users to stream audio and video content over the internet using the Windows Media Player. NetShow supported a variety of codecs, including Windows Media Audio and Video, as well as RealMedia and QuickTime formats. It was one of the earliest streaming technologies and was widely used for online broadcasts and webcasting in the late 1990s and early 2000s. With the introduction of newer and more advanced streaming technologies, NetShow became obsolete and was discontinued by Microsoft in 2003.
