What is nickernut?

Nickernut, also known as Caesalpinia bonduc, is a small tropical tree that belongs to the pea family, Fabaceae. It is native to a wide range of tropical regions including Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The tree produces large, woody pods that contain a hard, nut-like seed. These seeds are round and covered in spiked prickles. The seeds have a wide range of uses including being used in traditional medicine to relieve fever, promote urine flow, and treat skin conditions. In some cultures, the seeds are also used as a natural insect repellent. The wood of the tree is often used for building fences, houses, and other structures due to its durability and strength. However, due to over-harvesting and deforestation, the tree is now classified as endangered or vulnerable in some regions.
