What is nimotip?

Nimodipine, sold under the brand name Nimotop, is a medication used to prevent excessive narrowing of blood vessels in the brain, which can lead to stroke or other neurological injuries caused by lack of oxygen. It belongs to the class of medications called calcium channel blockers. Nimodipine is available in oral capsule and intravenous infusion forms. It is primarily used to prevent or treat vasospasm following a subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding in the space between the brain and the thin tissues that cover the brain), which is a serious condition that can lead to brain damage or death. Nimodipine works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the blood vessels, which improves blood flow to the brain. It is not typically used for high blood pressure or angina (chest pain). Common side effects of nimodipine include headache, nausea, dizziness, flushing, and low blood pressure. It can interact with some medications, so it is important to discuss your medical history and current medications with your healthcare provider before taking Nimotop.
