What is nispera?

Nispera, also known as sapodilla, is a tropical fruit native to Southern Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. It belongs to the Sapotaceae family and has brown, rough skin and soft, sweet pulp inside. The fruit is oval-shaped and can weigh up to 200 grams. The flavor of nispera is often described as a mix of brown sugar and pear, with a hint of cinnamon.

Nispera is a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, iron, and calcium. It is also rich in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. Nispera is often consumed fresh or used in desserts, jams, and drinks. Its pulp is often used in traditional medicine for its digestive and anti-diarrheal properties.

The tree that bears nispera can reach up to 30 meters in height and starts bearing fruit 5-8 years after planting. Its wood is used for furniture and construction purposes. Nispera is grown primarily in South and Central America, as well as parts of Asia, Africa, and Australia.
