What is noting?

Noting refers to the practice of paying close attention to one's thoughts, feelings, and sensations in a non-judgmental way. It is a mindfulness technique that involves observing one's experience in the present moment, without becoming overly attached or reactive to it.

Noting can be practiced in many different ways, such as silently noting thoughts as they arise, observing bodily sensations without reacting to them, or labeling emotions as they come up. The goal of noting is to increase self-awareness and decrease automatic reactions to our experiences.

Research has shown that noting can have a number of benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, increasing focus and attention, and improving emotional regulation. It can also help individuals become more aware of their habitual thought patterns and behaviors, which can lead to greater insight and self-improvement.
