What is odanah?

Odanah is a small unincorporated community located in Ashland County, Wisconsin, United States. It is situated on the Bad River Indian Reservation, and is home to the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

The name Odanah comes from the Ojibwe word "odaawaa-zaaga'igan", which means "heartberry river", referring to the cranberries that grow in the area. The community was established in the late 19th century as a trading post and hub for the logging industry.

Today, Odanah is primarily a residential community, with many residents working in nearby towns or on the reservation. It is also home to the Bad River Casino and the Bad River Lodge and Casino, which provide employment and entertainment for residents and visitors alike.

Odanah is located near several outdoor recreation opportunities, including the Bad River, which offers excellent fishing and boating opportunities, and the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, which provides hiking, camping, and hunting opportunities.
