What is oiron?

Oiron is a commune in the Deux-Sèvres department in western France. The village is situated on the banks of the River Thouet in the Loire Valley area and is primarily known for its château - Château d'Oiron. The castle, built in the 16th century, is a major tourist attraction and has been classified as a historic monument since 1951. Visitors can admire the castle's unique architecture, well-preserved tapestries and artworks from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The village is also renowned for its vineyards, producing grapes for the Loire Valley's famous wines. The population of Oiron is around 500 inhabitants and the area is part of the Poitou-Charentes region.
