Országgyűlés (Hungarian National Assembly) is the legislative body of Hungary, which consists of two chambers: the National Assembly and the Hungarian Senate. The National Assembly is the House of Representatives, composed of 199 members elected for a four-year term. The Senate is the upper house of the parliament, consisting of 100 members, who are appointed by the President of Hungary, based on the proposals of various institutions and bodies. The Országgyűlés is responsible for enacting and amending laws, approving the budget, electing the president of Hungary, supervising the government, and endorsing international treaties. The Országgyűlés has its seat in the Hungarian Parliament Building, one of the most beautiful and iconic buildings in Budapest, which is situated on the bank of the Danube River, in the heart of the city.
