What is peligot?

Peligot refers to the French chemist Jean Baptiste André Dumas- Peligot (11 July 1811 – 31 May 1884). He was born in Paris, France and was known for his contributions to the field of chemistry and mineralogy. Peligot studied under the famous chemist and inventor of atomic theory, John Dalton. Peligot also worked closely with another prominent French chemist, Antoine Lavoisier, and helped to revise his published works. His major research contributions included the discovery of several organic compounds, the study of the properties of hydrogen and the development of new methods for quantifying chemical reactions. Peligot was also instrumental in the creation of the metric system, as he was responsible for measuring the standard meter bar that was used in the original definition of the meter as a unit of length. He was elected a member of the Royal Society at the age of 37 and was awarded numerous other honors from scientific societies around the world. Peligot passed away in 1884 and today his name lives on in various chemical compounds and minerals named after him.
