What is phenuiviridae?

Phenuiviridae is a family of viruses that cause diseases in animals and humans. They are single-stranded RNA viruses that are transmitted to humans through bites from infected arthropods, such as mosquitoes and ticks. Phenuiviridae includes several important viruses, such as Rift Valley fever virus, which causes severe disease outbreaks in livestock and humans in Africa and the Middle East. Other viruses in this family, such as severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus and Heartland virus, have emerged in recent years and are associated with severe illness in humans. There is no specific treatment for phenuiviruses, and current efforts are focused on developing vaccines and improving prevention measures.
