What is plejady?

Plejady, also known as the Pleiades, is a star cluster in the constellation of Taurus. It is one of the most visible star clusters from Earth and has been known since ancient times.

The cluster consists of several hundred stars, with the brightest seven being visible to the naked eye. These seven stars are named after the Seven Sisters in Greek mythology: Maia, Electra, Taygeta, Alcyone, Celaeno, Sterope, and Merope.

The Pleiades are relatively young, having formed around 100 million years ago. They are also moving together as a group through space, and their motion can be observed from Earth.

In various cultures around the world, the Pleiades have been associated with myths and legends. They were believed to have a spiritual significance and were used by ancient navigators to guide their ships.

Today, the Pleiades remain a popular object of astronomical observation and research, being studied to understand stellar evolution and interstellar dust. They are also a popular target for amateur astronomy due to their striking appearance and proximity to Earth.
