What is pollywog?

A pollywog is a term used to describe the larval stage of an amphibian, specifically a frog or a toad. During this stage, the pollywog has a long tail and lives entirely in water, breathing through gills. Over time, the pollywog will undergo a process called metamorphosis, where it will develop lungs and legs and eventually leave the water and become a fully formed adult frog or toad. Pollywogs are an important part of many aquatic ecosystems, serving as a food source for predators such as fish and birds.
