What is pomel?

Pomel is a tropical fruit that is native to Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and Indonesia. It is also known as pomelo, pummelo, or shaddock. The fruit is similar in appearance to a grapefruit but larger, with a thick rind and a sweet-tart flesh inside that can vary in color from pale yellow to pink or red.

Pomelos are rich in vitamins C and A, fiber, and antioxidants, making them a healthy addition to any diet. They can be eaten fresh or used in salads, fruit cocktails, or juices. Their peel is also commonly used in Thai and Chinese cuisine for pickling or candying.

In traditional Chinese medicine, pomelos are believed to have a number of health benefits, including reducing cholesterol levels, promoting digestion, and improving circulation. They are also said to have a calming effect on the mind and body.

Pomelos are harvested in the late fall and early winter, and can be stored at room temperature for several weeks. They are available in many Asian grocery stores and specialty food markets around the world.
