What is porpose?

Porpoises are small-sized cetaceans that belong to the family Phocoenidae. They are closely related to dolphins and whales, and are known for their streamlined bodies, torpedo-like shape, and relatively small size compared to other cetaceans.

There are seven species of porpoises, including the harbor porpoise, Dall's porpoise, spectacled porpoise, finless porpoise, and vaquita. They can be found in various oceanic and coastal regions around the world, primarily in temperate and subarctic waters.

Porpoises are highly intelligent and social animals that typically live in small groups called pods. They are known for their playful behavior, acrobatic skills, and remarkable communication abilities. Porpoises primarily feed on fish, squid, and other small marine creatures, using echolocation to navigate and locate their prey.

Unfortunately, many porpoise species are facing threats from human activities such as bycatch in fishing nets, pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change. Conservation efforts are being made to protect these animals and their habitats to ensure their survival for future generations.
