What is pretentions?

Pretentions are defined as claims or assertions, often without evidence or proof, regarding one's own abilities, achievements, or qualities. In other words, it's when someone makes a statement about themselves that may not be entirely true or accurate.

Pretentions can be verbal or nonverbal and are often made to impress others or garner attention. They can be seen as a form of bragging or self-promotion, and sometimes people who have a lot of pretentions are viewed as arrogant or overconfident.

It's important to note that not all pretentions are malicious or intentional. Sometimes people may exaggerate their accomplishments or abilities without realizing it or in an attempt to feel better about themselves.

However, overall, pretentions can be damaging to one's relationships and reputation if they are made too frequently or believed by others who may later find out the truth. It's important to strive for honesty and humility in our interactions with others.
