What is pye?

Pye is a British brand of electronics that was established in 1896 as Pye Telecommunications Limited. The company started out as a manufacturer of telegraph and telephone equipment, and later moved on to produce radios, television sets, and other electronic equipment. In the 1950s, Pye was one of the first companies to introduce portable radios, which were very popular.

During World War II, Pye became a major supplier of radio equipment to the military, earning the company a reputation for producing high-quality and reliable products. After the war, Pye continued to expand its product lines, producing televisions and other consumer electronics.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Pye moved into the computer market, producing a range of computer systems for business and industrial use. In 1976, Pye merged with another company to form the large conglomerate Philips Pye. In the late 1980s, the Pye brand was sold to the Japanese company Tottori Sanyo, which later became part of the Sanyo Electric group.

Today, the Pye brand is still used by several companies, mainly producing radio communication equipment, including two-way radios and radio transceivers for the professional and industrial sectors.
