What is ravenscrag?

Ravenscrag is a historic mansion located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was built by Sir Hugh Allan, a prominent Canadian businessman, in the mid 1800s. The mansion was designed by architect Bruce Price who also was the architect behind the Château Frontenac in Quebec City and the Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta.

Ravenscrag is a four-storey mansion featuring a mix of Gothic Revival and Scottish Baronial styles. The mansion has over 30 rooms, including a grand ballroom, dining room, and library, all decorated with elaborate woodwork and stained glass windows. The exterior of the mansion features turrets, gables, and a distinctive mansard roof.

After Sir Hugh Allan's death, Ravenscrag served as a hospital during the First World War. In 1921, the mansion was purchased by the Sisters of Charity of Montreal and became part of the Hôpital Notre-Dame, which still operates on the site today. The mansion has been designated as a National Historic Site of Canada since 1973 due to its storied history and impressive architecture.
