What is reazurin?

Reazurin is a blue-colored dye that is commonly used in biochemical and microbiological assays. It is also known as alamar blue or resazurin. When reazurin is reduced by living cells, it changes color from blue to pink/red, making it a useful indicator for measuring the metabolic activity of cells or microorganisms. Reazurin is often used to assess cell viability and proliferation, as it can indicate the presence of viable cells and the rate of cell growth. It can also be used to detect the presence of microorganisms, as many bacteria and fungi are capable of reducing reazurin. Reazurin is non-toxic and relatively inexpensive, making it a widely-used tool in research and diagnostic applications.
