What is relenting?

Relenting means to give up, surrender or yield; to soften one's stance or to become less strict or severe. It can also refer to showing compassion or mercy, or to change one's mind about a decision or action.

For example, a person who was unwilling to forgive someone might relent after hearing an apology, or a boss who initially refused to grant a request might relent after hearing a persuasive argument. Similarly, a government might relent on a strict policy after pressure from the public or opposition.

Relenting can also refer to the easing up of a situation, such as a storm relenting and calming down, or a person relenting and allowing someone else to take a turn.

In short, relenting involves a change of heart, a willingness to compromise or a recognition of the need to show mercy or leniency.
