What is rolypoly?

Roly Polies are also known as pill bugs, woodlice or isopods. They are small, oval-shaped crustaceans that are found in damp and dark environments such as under stones, logs, and leaves. They are predominantly found in North America and Europe.

Roly Polies are about 0.5 inches long and have a hard exoskeleton which enables them to roll into a ball when they feel threatened. This is a defensive mechanism that protects them from predators.

They are detritivores and feed on decaying matter, such as dead leaves and wood. They also play an important role in the ecosystem by breaking down organic materials and returning nutrients to the soil.

Roly Polies can live up to two years but do not have a specific breeding season as they can reproduce all year round. They lay their eggs in a brood pouch, which is carried on the underside of the female's body until the eggs hatch.

They are harmless to humans and do not carry any diseases. Some people keep them as pets or use them as food for other pets such as reptiles and amphibians.
