Samsam is a type of ransomware that first appeared in 2015. It is also known as Samas or MSIL. Samsam is considered to be highly sophisticated, as it is often able to evade detection by traditional antivirus programs and also can spread throughout an organization's network by exploiting vulnerabilities in servers and other systems. Once it infects a computer, it encrypts files and demands payment, usually in Bitcoin, in exchange for a decryption key. Samsam attacks have targeted hospitals, universities, and government agencies, among other organizations, with some attacks resulting in significant financial losses.
