What is sarcoptidae?

Sarcoptidae is a family of parasitic mites that includes species that commonly infest domestic animals and humans. These mites burrow into the skin of their hosts and cause intense itching and irritation. Some common species in the family include Sarcoptes scabiei, which causes scabies in humans and other animals, and Notoedres cati, which causes mange in cats. Sarcoptidae mites have a round or nearly round body shape and eight legs, with the front pair of legs elongated and adapted for digging into the skin. They are commonly spread through direct contact with an infected individual or animal, and infestations can spread rapidly if left untreated. Treatment typically involves topical or oral medications to kill the mites and alleviate symptoms.
