What is scremo?

Screamo is a subgenre of punk rock or emo music that originated in the mid 1990s. It can be characterized by its aggressive and emotional style of singing, with high-pitched screams and intense vocals that are often accompanied by soft melodic passages, rapid guitar riffs, and heavy percussion.

Screamo bands typically use their lyrics to express their intense emotions and personal struggles, often dealing with topics like love, loss, heartbreak, and depression. They usually experiment with unconventional song structures, complex melodies, and unusual time signatures that differentiate them from mainstream punk rock.

Some of the prominent screamo bands include Saetia, Jerome's Dream, City of Caterpillar, Envy, Pg. 99, and Portraits of Past. While the genre has seen a decline in popularity in recent years, screamo music continues to attract a devoted cult following as a form of passionate and raw expression.
