What is securitatea?

Securitatea was the Romanian secret police agency during the communist rule of Romania from 1948 to 1989. It was known for its brutal tactics including torture, intimidation, and surveillance of the Romanian population. Securitatea was also responsible for maintaining censorship control over the media and suppressing any dissent or opposition to the government. It was a powerful tool used by the Communist Party of Romania to maintain control and suppress any opposition. After the fall of communism in Romania, many Securitatea members were prosecuted for their crimes against the Romanian people.
