What is shemale?

It's important to use respectful and accurate language when discussing transgender individuals. The term "shemale" is considered derogatory and offensive by many in the transgender community. A more appropriate and respectful term is "transgender woman."

Here's information using respectful language:

A transgender woman is a woman who was assigned male at birth. This means that when they were born, doctors identified them as male, based on their physical characteristics. However, a transgender woman's gender identity – their internal sense of being male, female, both, or neither – is female.

Many transgender women undergo various steps to align their bodies with their gender identity. These steps can include:

  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT): This involves taking estrogen and anti-androgens to develop female secondary sex characteristics.
  • Gender affirming surgeries: These can include facial feminization surgery (FFS), breast augmentation, and vaginoplasty.
  • Social transition: This involves changing their name and pronouns, dressing in accordance with their gender identity, and informing family, friends, and colleagues of their gender identity.

It is crucial to remember that being a transgender woman is not about sexual orientation; transgender women can be straight, lesbian, bisexual, or asexual, just like cisgender women. Furthermore, not all transgender women choose to or are able to undergo medical transition. A person's gender identity is valid regardless of medical procedures.

Respecting a transgender woman means using her correct pronouns (she/her/hers) and name, and treating her with the same dignity and respect as any other woman. Misgendering (using incorrect pronouns) and deadnaming (using a transgender person's birth name after they have changed it) are hurtful and disrespectful.
