What is sheungshui?

Sheungshui is a town located in the Northern New Territories of Hong Kong, bordering Shenzhen in Mainland China. The name Sheungshui means 'Upper Water' in Cantonese, indicating the town's location north of the Shing Mun River. Historically, the town was known for its agricultural activities, particularly for growing rice and vegetables, and as a stopover point for travelers along the ancient Silk Road.

It is home to a number of shopping malls, including the massive Yuen Long Plaza, and the popular Sheung Shui Wai cultural village, which offers a glimpse into traditional Hong Kong life. The town is also famous for its wet markets, selling fresh seafood, meat, and produce.

Sheungshui is well-connected to the rest of Hong Kong by various transport options, including the MTR East Rail Line, several bus routes, and the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, which connects the town with the Futian Port border crossing to Shenzhen. It is also a popular destination for visitors coming from Mainland China, due to its proximity to the border and its shopping and cultural attractions.
