What is shy?

Shyness is a trait that is characterized by a general feeling of unease or discomfort in social situations. People who are shy may feel nervous or anxious around others, and they may find it difficult to initiate conversation or engage in activities with groups of people.

Shyness can be a common trait among children and adolescents, but it can also persist into adulthood. It can be a natural part of a person's personality or a symptom of anxiety or social phobia.

Some common signs of shyness include avoiding eye contact, speaking softly or hesitantly, staying on the sidelines of social events, and blushing or sweating in social situations.

There are ways to overcome shyness, such as practicing social skills, exposing oneself to small social situations gradually, and seeking professional help if it is causing significant distress or impairment in daily life.
