What is simendan?

Levosimendan is a calcium sensitizer that works by increasing the sensitivity of the heart to calcium and increasing cardiac contractility, thereby increasing cardiac output. It is used to treat acute heart failure and chronic heart failure. Simendan has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties, which may be beneficial to heart failure patients. It is typically administered intravenously in a hospital setting. Common side effects of simendan include headache, low blood pressure, and nausea.
