What is skub?

Skub is a lesser-known twisty puzzle that can be seen as a corner-turning version of the Rubik's Cube or a simplified skewb. It's characterized by its fewer pieces and relatively simple solving algorithms.

  • Basic Structure: The Skub consists of 6 center pieces, 8 corner pieces, and no edge pieces. It's a cube but the moves rotate the corners around the center.
  • Solving Complexity: It is generally considered much easier to solve than a standard Rubik's Cube. Some solvers can even solve it intuitively without learning algorithms. However, learning algorithms for a more efficient solve is common.
  • Moves: The puzzle is manipulated by rotating sets of corners around the centers. There are 6 possible moves, one for each face.
  • Notation: The notation for Skub moves is typically based on the face being turned (U, D, L, R, F, B).
