What is slided?

Slided (also known as the "Sliding Puzzle", "Gem Puzzle", "Boss Puzzle", "Fifteen Puzzle", or "Mystic Square") is a classic single-player puzzle game.

  • Objective: The goal is to arrange numbered or picture tiles in ascending order or create a complete image by sliding them within a frame. One tile space is left empty to allow for movement.

  • Gameplay: Players move tiles horizontally or vertically into the empty space. The challenge lies in strategically planning moves to eventually achieve the desired arrangement.

  • Configurations: The most common version is the 15-puzzle, with 15 numbered tiles in a 4x4 frame. Other sizes exist. Not all initial configurations are solvable.

  • Solvability: The solvability of a Slided puzzle can be determined using mathematical principles related to permutations and inversions. An odd number of inversions means the puzzle is unsolvable.

  • Variations: Slided puzzles come in various forms, including those with pictures instead of numbers. There are also electronic versions.
