What is snare?

A snare is a type of drum that is characterized by its sharp, staccato sound. It is typically made of a drumhead stretched over a cylindrical shell, with a set of wires called snare wires or snares stretched across the bottom of the drumhead. When the drum is hit with a drumstick or other implement, the snares rattle against the bottom of the drumhead, creating a distinctive buzzing sound that is a hallmark of the snare drum.

Snares are commonly used in a variety of musical genres, including rock, pop, jazz, and marching band music. They are often played in rhythmic patterns that accentuate or complement other elements of the music, such as the bass or melody.

In addition to its musical applications, the snare drum is also used in military marching bands and as a signaling instrument in emergency situations or in search and rescue operations.
