Sooryavansham is a 1999 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by E. V. V. Satyanarayana. It stars Amitabh Bachchan in dual roles, along with Soundarya and Jayasudha.
The film tells the story of Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh (Amitabh Bachchan), a respected and wealthy village head. He disowns his youngest son, Heera (also played by Amitabh Bachchan), due to his lack of education and general lack of ambition. Heera then marries Gauri (Soundarya), a educated woman who vows to educate her husband and prove his worth to his father.
The plot revolves around Heera's transformation from an uneducated and irresponsible man to a responsible and capable individual, earning the respect of his father. The film also explores themes of family, love, and redemption. Despite initially receiving mixed reviews, Sooryavansham has gained a cult following over the years, largely due to its frequent airing on television channels.
