What is stortebecker?

Störtebeker (real name: Klaus Störtebeker) was a famous pirate who operated in the Baltic Sea during the late Middle Ages. He was born in around 1360 and was known for his daring raids on merchant ships and his reputation for being a ruthless pirate.

According to legend, Störtebeker and his crew had a code of conduct that they followed, which included treating captured prisoners with mercy and not harming innocent bystanders during raids. Störtebeker was also known for his bravery, once allegedly leaping from a ship onto a besieged town's walls to duel with the defenders.

Störtebeker's pirate career came to an end in 1401 when he was captured by Hanseatic League forces and executed in Hamburg along with his crewmates. His legend has lived on in popular culture, with numerous books, plays, and films made about his life and exploits.
