Succoth-benoth is a term mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible. It is believed to be a pagan deity or a group of pagan goddesses worshipped in ancient Mesopotamia. The name Succoth-benoth translates to "booths of daughters" or "tabernacles of the daughters" and it is thought to refer to a type of ritual prostitution. Some scholars suggest that Succoth-benoth was associated with the cult of Ishtar, a Babylonian and Assyrian goddess of love, fertility, and war. The worship of Succoth-benoth was one of the practices that led to the downfall of the kingdom of Israel, as described in 2 Kings 17:30-31. After the Babylonian captivity, the worship of Succoth-benoth faded away, and there is no evidence of its continued practice in modern times.
