What is sumi-gaeshi?

Sumi-gaeshi is a throwing technique used in Judo and other martial arts. It is also known as the 'corner throw' or 'corner reversal'. The technique involves throwing your opponent by pulling them towards you and then quickly reversing direction and throwing them over your hip to the other side. The throw is effective because it uses your opponent's momentum and balance against them. It requires precise timing and excellent footwork to execute well. Sumi-gaeshi can be used in both standing and ground grappling situations and is particularly useful when your opponent is pressuring you against the edge of the mat or in a confined space. However, it can be risky to attempt the move if your opponent is expecting it and is ready to counter.
