What is sundlower?

Sunflowers are tall, yellow flowers that belong to the family Asteraceae. They are native to North and South America, but are now cultivated all over the world for their oil and seeds. Sunflowers can grow up to 12 feet tall, and their bright yellow petals radiate from a large brown center.

Sunflower seeds are a common snack food and are also used to produce sunflower oil, which is often used in cooking and as a substitute for other oils. Sunflowers are also used for ornamental purposes and can make a beautiful addition to gardens and landscapes.

Sunflowers are known for their ability to turn their heads to face the sun, a phenomenon known as heliotropism. This enables the flowers to maximize their exposure to sunlight for optimal growth.

Some species of sunflowers have been used for medicinal purposes, including as a natural remedy for respiratory illnesses, fever, and to promote wound healing. Sunflowers are also used in traditional Native American ceremonies and art.
