What is ta-luft?

TA-Luft stands for Technische Anleitung zur Reinhaltung der Luft, which is a German technical directive on air pollution control. It was first introduced in 1986 and is still in force today. The TA-Luft sets out general requirements for limiting air pollution from industrial sources, demanding stringent measures to reduce emissions. The directive sets limits on emissions of 13 different substances, including sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides. TA-Luft also specifies technical standards and procedures for pollution control equipment, monitoring and measurement systems, quality management, and reporting. Compliance with the TA-Luft directive is mandatory for industrial companies in Germany that fall under its scope. Going beyond its national scope, TA-Luft's recommendations and technical standards have become widely recognized and adopted internationally as best practice for air pollution control.
