What is tachyphylactic?

Tachyphylaxis is a decrease in the effectiveness of a drug or treatment over time, due to the body's ability to rapidly adapt to the drug or treatment. This can happen with drugs that are taken repeatedly or with certain medical procedures. Tachyphylaxis can occur with a range of drugs and treatments, including opioids, asthma medications, blood pressure medications, and more. It is thought to be caused by a number of factors, including changes in the body's metabolism, changes in receptor sensitivity, and changes in the way the drug is processed by the body. Treatment for tachyphylaxis may involve adjusting the dosage of the drug, changing to a different medication, or taking a break from the medication or treatment for a period of time.
