What is takama-ga-hara?

Takama-ga-hara is a Shinto concept that refers to the mythical realm of the gods in Japanese folklore. It is believed to be a high plain located in the sky, transcending the mortal world and accessible only to the gods. It is the place where the principal deities of Shintoism reside, including Amaterasu, the sun goddess, and Susanoo, the storm god. According to Shinto mythology, Takama-ga-hara was the place where the first gods descended to earth and established Japan's divine heritage. It is also believed to be the location where Amaterasu emerged from a cave, restoring light to the world and establishing herself as the central deity in Japanese mythology. Today, Takama-ga-hara is still an important concept in Shintoism and is often associated with the idea of heavenly peace and purity.
