What is tdy?

TDY stands for Temporary Duty. It is a type of assignment given to military personnel where they are required to travel away from their home station for a short period of time to perform a specific task or duty. TDY assignments can last anywhere from a few days to several months.

During a TDY assignment, personnel may be required to stay in temporary lodging and receive a per diem allowance for meals and incidental expenses. They may also receive reimbursement for travel expenses such as airfare, rental car, and lodging.

TDY assignments are often used for training, deployments, temporary duty at another base or installation, or to assist with specific projects or missions. Personnel on TDY are typically still considered to be under the jurisdiction of their home station and report back to their regular duty assignment once the TDY is complete.
