What is teriflunomid?

Teriflunomide is a medication used in the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). It works by reducing the number of immune cells in the body that cause inflammation and damage to the nervous system. It is taken orally as a tablet and is often prescribed as a long-term maintenance therapy for MS. Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, hair loss, and decreased white blood cell count. It is also contraindicated for pregnant women and women planning to become pregnant as it can harm the developing fetus. Patients taking teriflumonide require monitoring of liver function and regular blood tests.
