What is thyrohyoid?

The thyrohyoid muscle is a small, strap-like muscle located in the neck. It originates from the thyroid cartilage and inserts into the hyoid bone.

The function of the thyrohyoid muscle is to elevate the larynx and depress the hyoid bone, assisting in the swallowing process. It also plays a role in the production of sound by controlling the position of the larynx.

Injury or dysfunction of the thyrohyoid muscle can result in difficulty swallowing, changes in voice quality, and discomfort in the neck area. Physical therapy and vocal exercises may be recommended to strengthen and improve the function of the muscle. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to repair any damage to the muscle.
