Torbesh are a minority ethnic community in North Macedonia and Kosovo. They are believed to originate from the Torbeši tribe in Albania. The Torbesh speak a dialect of Albanian, known as the Torbeshi dialect, but also have adopted Turkish language and culture due to Ottoman rule. They are predominantly Muslim and have a distinctive dress and traditional music. Historically, the Torbesh were mainly engaged in agriculture and trade, but are now becoming more involved in modern professions and urbanization. The Torbesh have been recognized as a separate ethnic group in North Macedonia since 1990 and have representation in the country's parliament.
