What is tortrix?

Tortrix is a genus of moths in the family Tortricidae. These moths are small to medium-sized, with wingspans ranging from 10 to 30 mm. They are found worldwide, with the greatest diversity of species in the tropics.

The larvae of tortrix moths are known as leafrollers, as they often roll and tie leaves together to form protective shelters. These larvae feed on a wide variety of plant species, including fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamental plants. As a result, some species of tortrix moths are considered pests in agriculture.

Tortrix moths are usually brown or gray with blotches and streaks of darker colors on their wings. Some species have distinctive markings, such as stripes or spots. They are active at night and are attracted to light.

Despite their small size, tortrix moths play an important role in their ecosystems as both pollinators and prey for other animals. Some species have also been studied for their potential as biocontrol agents against invasive plant species.
