What is transfagarasn?

Transfagarasan is a spectacular road in Romania that crosses the Carpathian Mountains, connecting the regions of Transylvania and Wallachia. The road was built between 1970 and 1974, during the rule of former Romanian leader Nicolae Ceausescu. The road stretches over 90 kilometers and has many hairpin curves, tunnels, and bridges, making it a popular destination for tourists and driving enthusiasts.

The highest point of the Transfagarasan road is Balea Lake, located at an altitude of 2,034 meters. The road offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the majestic Fagaras Mountains, which give the road its name.

The Transfagarasan road is open to traffic only during the summer months, usually from late June until October, as it is closed during winter due to heavy snowfall. The road is also popular among cyclists and motorcyclists, who travel there to experience the challenging twists and turns.

Transfagarasan is also a popular filming location. It has been featured in several movies, including The Brothers Bloom and the British automotive show Top Gear, where host Jeremy Clarkson described it as "the best road in the world."
