What is tupuxara?

Tupuxara is a genus of pterosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 million years ago. It belonged to the group of pterosaurs known as azhdarchids, which were characterized by their long, stiff necks and large, toothless jaws. Tupuxara had a wingspan of around 4 meters and was likely a carnivorous predator, using its large jaws to catch and eat fish or other small animals. Fossils of Tupuxara have been found in Brazil, in the Serra da Aratanha Formation. The name "Tupuxara" comes from Tupuxuara, a legendary creature from indigenous Brazilian mythology said to resemble a giant bat.
