What is tureia?

Tureia is an atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago in French Polynesia. It is located approximately 685 kilometers east of Tahiti and covers an area of around 40 square kilometers. The atoll has a population of fewer than 300 people and is known for its beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and abundant marine life. Tureia has a small airport that connects it to other islands in the archipelago, but there are no regular commercial flights to the atoll. The economy is largely based on subsistence agriculture and fishing, although there is some tourism activity. Tureia is also home to one of the largest shark sanctuaries in the world, which was established in 2011 to protect sharks and their habitat from commercial fishing activities.
